Emergency Medical Technician

(EMT-Basic)

 

EMT-Basic course content includes patient assessment skills, basic airway management,  use of the Automatic External Defibrillator and stabilization of the trauma patient. Course objectives include:  

 

A course completion certificate for 132 hours is awarded. 

 

A Healthcare Provider CPR certification must be obtained prior to attending class.

 

Prequisities:

Students must be eighteen years old, present proof of a current health care level CPR card and have no felony convictions.

 

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the EMT-B course, the student will be able to:

  1. Perform appropriate patient assessment skills to determine the severity of illness or injury.
  2. Identify and describe probable causes/complications of common illnesses and injuries.
  3. Communicate pertinent patient assessment findings for a simulated patient situation (verbally and in a written report)
  4. Discuss safety factors for the patient and Emergency Response personnel.
  5. Demonstrate preparation of a patient for transport to a medical facility.
  6. Describe the scope of practice and legal parameters for the EMT-B.

Tests/Quizzes:

Minimum passing score on quizzes and exams is 80%

Must pass a National Registry (NREMT-B) skills practical.

Accredited 2-Year Healthcare Provider CPR, includes choking and AED resuscitation for children and adults.

EmT-R

Review of EMT-B course content  and skills practice. The EMT skills practical exam is on the last day of class and is open to those who only need the skills practical for EMT renewal.

The minimum passing standard is 80% on a written exam and successful performance of NREMT-B skills. At the conclusion of this course, a completion certificate for 24 hours of EMT-B continuing education and a skills verification form is awarded.
